SCRAPS Adoption Process
SCRAPS (Band City Stray Cat Rescue and Protection Society) is dedicated to finding loving forever homes for stray and abandoned cats. If you're interested in adopting a cat from our shelter in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, please follow the steps outlined below:
1. Research and Preparation
Education: Learn about the responsibilities involved in cat ownership. Ensure that all family members are ready for the commitment.
Home Preparation: Make necessary adjustments to your home to ensure it's safe and welcoming for a new cat.
2. Choosing Your Cat
Visit an adoption location: Come to one of our locations to meet the cats available for adoption. Spend time interacting with them to find a good match for your home.
Online Profiles: Review the profiles of available cats on our website. Each cat has been assessed for temperament, health, and special needs.
3. Application Process
Fill Out an Application: Complete the adoption application form which includes questions about your living situation, pet ownership history, and lifestyle. If the cat your are interested in is younger than 6 months and hasn't been spayed or neutered yet, then a Spay/Neuter Agreement will also be required.
Bring completed applications to the SCRAPS 9-Lives Boutique or email to scraps-mj@hotmail.com - A SCRAPS representative will review your application and conduct a brief interview. This helps us understand your preferences and expectations, and ensure the best match for both you and the cat.
4. Home Check (if required)
Home Visit: In some cases, a home visit may be required to ensure a safe environment for the cat. This is also an opportunity to provide advice on cat-proofing your home.
5. Adoption Fee
Payment: An adoption fee is required to help cover the costs of veterinary care, vaccinations, and spaying/neutering.
6. Finalizing Adoption
Adoption Agreement: Once your application is approved, you'll sign an adoption agreement. This is a legal document that outlines your responsibilities as the cat's new owner.
Medical Records: You will receive a copy of the cat's medical records, vaccination history, and any other relevant health information.
7. Bringing Your Cat Home
Transport: Ensure you have a secure carrier to transport your new cat safely.
Settle In: Give your new cat time to adjust to their new environment. Provide
a quiet, comfortable space where they can feel safe and gradually explore their new home
8. Post-Adoption Support
Follow-Up: A SCRAPS representative will check in with you shortly after adoption to ensure the transition is going smoothly and to address any questions or concerns.
We offer ongoing support and resources for our adopters. Feel free to contact us for advice on cat care, behavior issues, or anything else related to your new pet.
9. Staying Connected
Updates: We'd love to hear about your cat’s new life! Please share updates and photos. Happy adoption stories motivate us and help other potential adopters.
Adopting a cat from SCRAPS is a rewarding experience that brings joy to both the adopter and the cat.
